First Day in Hopkins

We arrived in Belize today. Flight was great, nice and short. We arrived and went through customs...got a lot of stares going through customs with 4 towheads. Felt relatively safe at the BZ airport...then we walked across the street to our car rental. Along the way to the car rental we passed a couple really really  nice cars. We walk in and I check out (the only thing I could request is a 7 passenger suv) I fill out the paperwork and up pulls our 2003 Dodge Durango with 135,000 miles on it. (we giggled) You actually have to un-plug the battery before you leave the car or it will drain... this car is a true gem. We hoped in and due to the delay knew we needed to get going because we didn't want to be stuck driving in a foreign country that doesn't have street lights at dark. It took 2-1/2 hours to get to Hopkins from the airport, and yes we had to do a good portion of it in the dark. The other scary part is that there are NO street labels here. AT ALL. So every turn you make is at "the white house", or "at the green sign". The kids were great in the car, once they realized there was no tv or anything.

When we arrived at our resort Hopkins Bay Resort, it is on the southeast corner of Belize on the coast we dropped our bags and went to dinner. We were told there isn't a problem with mosquitos...but no one ever mentioned Sand Flies (which bite...worse than mosquitos). We enjoyed our first dinner at our resort accompanied by the local drummers from in town, and then went and crashed in bed.

Travel Day-

Home again Home again. I think we were ready to get home. We got a late check out on Thursday because our ferry didn't leave until 1pm...
